Stumbling in the dark

Stumbling in the dark

Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom? Weird question, I know, just follow me on this one. If you’re like me you’ve made many of these trips stumbling through the dark, half awake, with arms stretched out in front of you so you don’t walk into any walls. We all know the feeling, and it’s not a good one. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve made this night journey only to successfully plant my foot on every toy the kids left out or stub my toe on some random piece of furniture that has always been there. Stumbling through the dark can be hard; we all know this. So what I finally decided to do as I grew in age and wisdom was buy those little night lights from Home Depot for my walls so that I wouldn’t be running into things on my nightly journeys. These little bulbs of glorious light are my beacon that keep me heading in the right direction and avoiding major pain in the process.

When I think about this  concept for my own life I am reminded of the similarities to my life’s journey. How many times do we all face darkness in our lives? How many times do we find ourselves stumbling through life trying to find our way not really sure if we are even headed in the right direction? How many time to we run into pain that could have easily been avoided if we saw it coming? I can be honest with you and say that there are many times I’ve found myself in these “dark” situations. It can be hard to navigate when we are in these seasons, but I want to give you hope. We have access to a light that will guide us much like the night lights I bought for my walls.  This light is available 24/7 through God’s word!

Psalms 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

What an encouragement to know that I don’t have to stumble through the darkness because His word is a light to my path. So the next time you find yourself in the darkness, turn to Him. Seek Him through prayer. Ask Him to guide you and show you the way. Open the Word of God, the Bible, and turn on the light!
