Feeling low or disappointed? Stay CLOSE to the source!
By now, most, if not all, of the trees have lost their leaves, except for those who like winter :/ And it’s starting to get darker earlier and the skies are looking more gray by the day.
I don’t know about you, but for me, this often is an incredibly easy gateway that leads me into an opportunity for gloom and doom sort of attitude each day of the long, cold winter.
Especially the cold. It just feels so bad. For those of you who enjoy winter, you are weird and please don’t talk to me. But when I finish up with work and responsibilities for the day and head home around 5/5:30, it’s just pitch black, cold, and depressing.
When I finally arrive home, the family gathering place in the winter in our home is the pellet stove. Thank God for that pellet stove, because it’s always warm and toasty. And we just sort of huddle in front of it and fight for a space to escape the cold. Whenever I’m feeling that chill, I just stay CLOSE to the pellet stove and it warms me and comforts me.
Spiritually, I think we go through similar seasons. Like I said, for me, it often coincides with the winter season. It’s much easier to feel low when the weather stinks than when I’m standing on the beach soaking in the sun.
But when we find ourselves in the middle of a dry, cold season spiritually, all we have to do is stay CLOSE. Close to the source of joy and peace. Close to the source of love and acceptance. CLOSE to God. And He will give us what we need. He will sustain us through that season and bring us back to warmer weather.
So, don’t let it get you down. Stay CLOSE.
